In a major step toward smart city living, Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC) has launched Tap and Go Mart, Malaysia’s first fully commercialized AI-powered unmanned convenience store, strategically located at Baitul Makmur II, Petra Jaya. The launch was officiated by YBhg. Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Morshidi bin Abdul Ghani, Chairman of SDEC, together with YBhg. Datuk Haji Abang Abdul Wahap bin Haji Abang Julai, Chief Executive Officer of Lembaga Amanah Kebajikan Masjid Negeri Sarawak (LAKMNS), and YBhg. Dato Ir. Ts. Sudarnoto Osman, Chief Executive Officer of SDEC.

Operating 24 hours a day, Tap and Go Mart utilizes Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and computer vision to deliver a seamless “scan, shop & go” experience. Customers can simply scan a QR code via the SBOX AI Wallet, pick their items, and walk out — with payment processed automatically. Situated within Baitul Makmur II, a key Sarawak government building, the mart symbolizes Sarawak’s bold progress under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030, paving the way for a smarter, technology-driven future.
